Alaska Statehood, 50 years!

I was watching Jeopardy the other night when they were talking about a 1970's music clue and was amazed that I forgot! Then a TV advertisement came on (something I did remember) about the great Alaska Birthday - they are 50 years old as a statehood member this year, I was younger then but I remember the hoopla surrounding Statehood. It is a fabulously beautiful place to go and visit, you won't forget your trip. Make it a point to go this Summer and early Fall and take advantage of the specials, not only on trips but also all the ones available to you from local merchants. There is fishing for a Big king Salmon, cruising the Inside Passage and seeing Glaciers, rides up mountain passes in small "old time" railroad trains. Experiences not to be missed.

Lifting the Mexico Travel Ban

The latest news for Mexico travelers: The CDC has removed its recommendation that U.S. travelers avoid travel to Mexico.

This also reminds me of ALL the media hoopla around the flu in Mexico. Did anyone ever connect the dots that airlines and cruise lines stopped or delayed many of their flights/calls to Mexico, as did countries around the world, completely disrupting the Mexican Tourism Industry those really "exist" on the tourism dollar, however..did anyone notice that the "gates" to Mexico..the drive through borders of Tijuana/Chula Vista/San Diego and El Paso/Juarez..were not shut down? Hourly, there are literally thousands of people going back and forth...would not have closing them made a difference as well? Just an interesting thought.

Enhanced passport news via driver's licenses

More info about going and returning from the US to Canada or Mexico by car - especially in light of new laws coming into effect sooner than you think! If you live in certain states (and I can see more following suit)apply for an Enhanced Driver's License sooner rather than later. It is to your benefit if you go back and forth often. Also this is good for people living in areas who want to drive to Vancouver, Quebec, Montreal, etc. for weekend fun or short vacations.

Border Crossings - June-Canada, USA & Mexico News

Most of us are all aware that June 1, 2009 heralds the newest border crossing laws for crossing into the USA from Canada or from the USA to Canada go into effect. In short, WILSON RING, an Associated Press Writer commented:

Headed to Montreal or Canadians visiting Michigan's Mackinac Island? For travelers who normally go there, those trips get a little more complex this summer. (Meaning - these are popular vacation or weekend spots, so don't wait, get your ducks in a row now!!)

As enhanced border crossing requirements loom, more states and provinces are putting in place the tools needed to make it easier for people to go between the U.S. and Canada.

There are still a few loose ends, but officials with U.S. Customs and Border Protection say they will be ready June 1, the day the United States fully implements the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.

The initiative strengthens documentation requirements for everyone entering the country, calling for passports or special driver's licenses.

The requirements will be in effect along the entire U.S. border with Canada. The initiative doesn't affect Mexican nationals, who are already required to present a passport and visa to come into the U.S.

See full document at Yahoo's news AND the "new" driver's licenses that make it easier for those In the Quebec area and USA's Eastern border states who travel back and forth. When is it going to be made available for the rest of us, I wonder? Seems it might make travel to these two areas a little easier.

However, you still really really need to apply for that passport... and travel the world, prices are the best I've seen in years, many worldwide Villa Vacation Rentals are offering anywhere from 3-10% savings, which could mean a lot of green to you. Cruise lines have new itineraries, low prices, great incentives, 2 for 1 in some cases, and free air in others. The Caribbean (and Mexico) vacation packages have excellent rates, free upgrades and more. Great Summer Specials abound.

Updates on Travel - Mexico, China, Europe

After receiving a note regarding persons who live (and work) in Mexico relating to their travel outside of Mexico to just about anywhere, I decided to include information relative to any travel anywhere that you may be contemplating and the source to find up-to-date relative information. This affects both VISA's and PASSPORTS to anywhere in the world, and traveling from other places to new and exciting destinations.

China Travel, an update of interest to Guangzhou

I recently read an article by Lloyd Behner, posted in the NY Times, about travel to China. In short, he says: Guangzhou has been known largely for its cuisine and commerce, but gray skies and massive highways have given it an industrial feel that resulted in low tourist numbers. The Chinese city's fate is changing, however. Taojin Lu, for example, is a neighborhood that's transforming into a popular hangout for artsy Chinese, expats and visitors. "Five years ago it used to be more down and dirty, with vegetables rotting in the street," said British-born Jonathan Edwards. "Now it's quite funky. There's a nice mix of foreigners and hip Chinese."
